Industry Giants join OpenID Foundation Board

Today Microsoft, Yahoo,  IBM, VeriSign, and Google have joined the OpenID Foundation as corporate board members. This big news for OpenID. With Yahoo and Google becoming OpenID Providers earlier this year, this is really shaping up to be the year of OpenID.

First coverage I see of the announcement is at CNN Money. That’s funny.

Mike Jones from Microsoft blogged here about. Interesting to see the press release up at Microsoft’s PressPass with a quote from Google. :-)

Once again, our choice to use OpenId exclusively for treasurelicous.com has proved to be a smart one.

Welcome, Google, Microsoft, Verisign, et al., to the OpenId party. Go ahead and grab a drink, the pizza is in the other room. :)

This is great news. I have started to talk about OpenID within the organization with the Identity and Access Engineering group at my employer and this announcement is right on tim.

It looks like everyone is quick to be an OpenID provider, but not an OpenID consumer. I hope that trend changes.
